Originally from Darwin, Amelia Jane Hunter is now a Sydney based comedian with exquisite bogan grace who believes comedy is revolutionary and can save the world. Her unique brand of energy filled character comedy provides hilarious insights into the wicked and wily workings of a well bred, lateral thinking mind. Her humour is both confronting, sensitive and intelligent, a hearty grain fed, well rounded, full bodied flavour with lashings of laughter and a generous side of political profanity. A trained actor and a contributing comedy writer to ABC's 'The Glasshouse', Amelia has performed on the Comedy Channels ' Stand up Australia' and Channel 31's 'The Couch'. Amelia's first solo show 'ROADHOUSE' was nominated for the 'GOLDEN GIBBO' Award- 'for brave and innovative new work' and played to full houses at the 2006 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. 'Roadhouse is a triumph!' Chortle UK 'Brilliantly portrayed and utterly hilarious' The Pun In 2005 Amelia performed and traveled with four Sydney based comics in 'MIC in TRANSIT' at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and the Edingburgh Comedy Fringe Festival in Scotland. 'Intelligent, caustic and very, very brave...a one woman Tour de Force!' The Scotsman 'Deceptively sweet, strong and hilarious. The sweetest Glasgow kiss I ever had!' Glasgow Herald A regular on the Sydney comedy scene, a state finalist in 2002/03 JJJ Raw Comedy and winner of Darwin 'Roar Comedy', Amelia has performed her outrageous humour everywhere from Darwin Workers Club, Woodford Folk Festival to Cobbs Comedy Club in San Francisco. Performing "Amelia Jane Hunter is Keith Flipp" at the 2007 Edinburgh Fringe Festival will further her comedic talents and the distinct possibility of being single, childless and full of purpose that little bit longer. She's the thinking man's crumpet and the working woman's pin up. She's also a top root. |
